In choosing a password, please by mindful of the following guidelines:
- Password should be at least eight characters long.
- Password should not be based on or include any personal information (e.g. name, address, etc.) or personal interests (e.g. favorite football team, favourite sportsperson, etc.)
- Employees must not reuse passwords from other accounts (including those used for personal accounts)
- Employees should follow NCSC guidelines and construct their password using three random words e.g ‘coffeetrainfish’. Such passwords are easier to remember (thus reducing the need to write them down) and significantly more difficult for attackers to break.
Note, we have also blacklisted (i.e. blocked) some of the most common passwords (as identified by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre), meaning you will be unable to use them.
